Garbage Truck Catches Fire In Frankfort Square (VIDEO)
The driver was unhurt in Monday's blaze, the trash disposal company said.

FRANKFORT SQUARE, IL — Firefighters put out a small fire on a garbage truck Monday in Frankfort Square after the vehicle's hydraulic system malfunctioned, according to the Frankfort Fire District. The truck's driver wasn't hurt in the incident, a spokeswoman for Homewood Disposal said Tuesday.
The fire district responded to a call at around 9:18 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, of a garbage truck on fire in the 20700 block of Woodlawn Court, near Hickory Creek Drive, authorities said. Deputy Chief Sean Fierce told Patch on Tuesday that the truck's hydraulic system caught fire, and despite the impressive display, the flames were a positive sign. It meant the natural gas fuel tank was operating properly by blowing off pressure and keeping the truck from exploding, he added.
"It creates quite the spectacle, but it was actually doing what it's designed to do," Fierce said.
