Old Plank Road Trail 5K Scheduled For 25th Year

The race along Old Plank Road Trail is scheduled for Oct. 2.

FRANKFORT, IL — There is no slowing down for the Village of Frankfort's Old Plank Road Trail 5K, which is now in its 25th year. Check in and race-day registration is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Oct. 2 at Breidert Green in downtown Frankfort, according to Village officials. The race is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. with an awards ceremony to follow at 10:30 a.m.

Pre-registration costs are $15 for those ages 11 and up, $10 for those 10 and under, according to Village officials. Same-day registration is $20. Pre-registration closes on Oct. 1.

The USATF-certified race starts on Old Plank Road Trail just east of White Street in downtown Frankfort, according to a map provided by Village officials. The route continues east on the trail and to where the north/south trail meets the west/east trail before following the trail back to White Street at the finish line.

This year, the Village is also offering a virtual option to be held Oct. 2-9. The in-person race is a rain or shine event, officials said.

Awards will be handed out for both male and female winners in different age group categories: 10 and under, 11-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 an up, according to information on the Village's website. There will also be an award for the overall winner for both men and women.

To register for the Old Plank Road Trail 5K, visit the Village of Frankfort website, or register in person at Frankfort Village Hall located at 432 W. Nebraska St.
