State Rep. Ozinga Resigns Abruptly, Replacement To Be Named In 30 Days
State Rep. Tim Ozinga, of Mokena, has stepped down from his seat in the state legislature. He did not give a reason.
FRANKFORT, IL — State Rep. Tim Ozinga has resigned from his seat in the state legislature, effective April 8 just before midnight.
Ozinga (R-Mokena) did not give a reason for his resignation.
"It has been a privilege to serve the constituents of the 37th District," Ozinga wrote in a statement on his website. "As of today, my service in the Illinois House will end. However, I will continue to dedicate my time and efforts to make Illinois a better place.

"I remain committed to advocating for the people of my district and moving the State of Illinois in the right direction."
Ozinga represented the 37th District—comprised of Mokena, Lockport, Orland Hills, Orland Park, New Lenox, Tinley Park, Homer Glen, Joliet, Frankfort Square, and Frankfort — since 2021. He also serves as chair of the Will County Republican Central Committee, a role in which he clarified on Wednesday that he intends to continue.

A committee now will seek to appoint a replacement for both the remainder of Ozinga's term, as well as for the Republican nomination in the upcoming General Election.
Applications will be accepted until April 12 at 12 noon. Interested applicants must live within the 37 th District and submit a resume and letter of reference from a Republican elected official by email or in person to:

Applicant information must be received no later than 12 noon on April 12. Resumes and letters of reference received after the deadline will not be considered.
