FRANKFORT, IL — State football championships don't happen every day (or every year, for that matter), so it's no surprise that Lincoln-Way East High School players, students and fans have been celebrating since the team captured the Class 8A title Saturday night. The undefeated and top-ranked Griffins beat Wilmette's Loyola Academy, 23-14. It's the second time L-W East has been crowned state champions in the school's history.
So what's the proper way to celebrate being the top Class 8A football program in Illinois? To start, L-W East players joined students who weathered the chilly temperatures in the stands at Northern Illinois University's Huskie Stadium in DeKalb for a song following the big win.
Those festivities continued Sunday morning in Frankfort at the high school. Players and coaches participated in a parade that included a police and fire department escort. The celebration was capped off with a trophy celebration in the school's gym.

Patch will be joining in the Griffins's championship celebration, too. Frankfort Patch editor Joe Vince and Wilmette Patch editor Tim Moran placed a "friendly wager" — the Put Up and Eat Up Challenge — on the championship game, and a lucky L-W East fan will be able to enjoy lunch at Enrico's with them. Check back Monday for details on how you can get in on this free meal.
