Geneva student named to Western Carolina University's dean's list

Congratulations to Lauren Corcoran, of Geneva, IL, for being named to the Western Carolina University Spring 2023 Dean's List.

Corcoran was among more than 3,000 students to achieve this honor. To qualify for this honor, students must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher while completing a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Spring 2023 dean's list announced at Carthage College

Carthage College congratulates the students who have been named to the Dean's List in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement in Spring 2023, including these in your coverage area:

  • Adam Johnson of Geneva
  • Shannon Laukaitis of Geneva
  • Eleni Salas of Geneva
  • Selina Costabile of Geneva

Dean's List honors are accorded to Carthage students who achieve a minimum 3.5 grade-point average while carrying at least 12 letter-graded credits in a given semester.

Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi Inducts New Members

The following people recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

  • David Conrad Jr.of Geneva (60134) at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
  • Justin Hepburn of Geneva (60134) at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

They are among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

Augustana College's spring semester dean's list

Augustana College announced more than 1,000 students were named to the Dean's List for the 2022-23 spring semester. Students who have earned this academic honor have maintained a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a four-point scale for courses taken during the term.

Geneva student selected to Nebraska Business Honors Academy

Brock Mason of Geneva, a recent graduate of Geneva High School, is among 40 high-achieving first-year students selected to join the Nebraska Business Honors Academy at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln this fall. Comprising the academy's 11th cohort, the students hail from two countries, nine U.S. states and 12 Nebraska communities.

Mason intends to major in actuarial science.
