Geneva City Council Approves Lowest Property Tax Rate Since 1980

Based on city records dating to 1980, the 2025 property tax levy is the lowest on record in Geneva, officials said.

GENEVA, IL — In 2026, Geneva residents will experience the lowest property tax rate since 1980, according to the city.

Geneva City Council approved Monday night a 3.25 percent decrease, from 0.4779 to 0.4575, for the 2025 tax levy, which covers property taxes paid in 2026.

The new rate translates to approximately $27 in savings for the owner of a $450,000 home in Geneva. The decrease comes as property values across Geneva continue to rise.
