Coronavirus In IL: Kane County Cancellations, Closures
An updated list on area cancellations and closures, including schools and major events.
KANE COUNTY, IL — As Illinois health officials reported the first cases of COVID-19 outside of Cook County this week, businesses, schools and organizations are deciding whether to close, or postpone or cancel scheduled events. Multiple schools have also closed or postponed events over fears of exposure to the new coronavirus.
In a news release, Geneva Community Unit School District 304 announced Thursday that district and school-sponsored events involving large gatherings with parents and community members outside the regular school day will be postponed or canceled beginning Thursday afternoon through Sunday, March 15.
"Please know that Geneva 304 continues to actively monitor reports of COVID-19 and follow guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Kane County Health Department, the CDC, and the Kane County Regional Office of Education," the district said in the news release.

We are evaluating each event as the situation continues to evolve. Please know this does not impact our regularly scheduled school day. We are also following the lead of state organizations, such as the IHSA, regarding state competitions involving students.
Please check with your student's building or sponsor if you have questions about a particular event. We realize this decision may bring more questions. Please continue to monitor the school district's website and 304 Connects email communication, as we work to provide more details about this as quickly and as responsibly as possible."
