GENEVA, IL — Drivers headed through downtown Geneva Tuesday should expect delays due to construction to fix a collapsed sanitary sewer.

Crews are repairing the sewer at 201 E. State St., just east of the bridge crossing the Fox River, requiring both westbound Route 38 lanes to be closed. As a result, traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction, with westbound cars being shifted to the interior eastbound lane, city officials said in an alert just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Left-hand turns from Crissey Avenue onto westbound State Street are not allowed during construction.

The sanitary sewer repair and temporary roadway patch should be completed before the evening rush hour, officials said. The city suggested drivers use alternate routes in the interim.
