Geneva Curbside Leaf Program Postponed Until Next Spring

The city is halting its curbside leaf pickup program due to snow, officials said.

GENEVA, IL — Geneva is postponing its curbside leaf pickup program until next spring, officials said Friday.

The city's contractor completed two-thirds of the final pickup route on Nov. 29 when a snowstorm brought 9 inches of accumulation, burying leaves. Additional snowfall and colder temperatures prompted the city to suspend operations until next year, according to a news release.

The spring curbside collection will be available only to residents who did not receive their third pickup. A map highlighting the streets that will be included next year is available on the city's website.

City staff expect the contractor to begin the spring route in the second half of March, but the schedule is weather-dependent. Officials said they will share more information once it's available.

Residents who can access their fallen leaves can bag them for free in December, officials said. Leaves should be placed in brown yard waste bags — no waste stickers are required — and set out with the garbage on residents' regular refuse collection day.

The final pickup will take place the week of Dec. 22, one day later than usual due to Christmas.
