GENEVA, IL — The East State Street project is expected to begin "in the coming months" as the Illinois Department of Transportation put the project out to bid in March, Geneva officials said.

The project to reconstruct East State Street from Glengarry Drive to the Fox River has been long awaited in Geneva. The plan is to widen the road, enhance streetscapes, add bike lanes, improve traffic signals and upgrade lighting.

The city will be relocating and upgrading underground electrical and water utility infrastructure as part of the project.

Although a firm start date is unknown, officials said in an update Friday that construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in the spring or summer. Work is expected to be substantially completed in late 2027, with punch list items finishing the following year.

A construction schedule for the multi-year project will be developed once IDOT selects a firm from the bidding process. City officials said they'll share information once it becomes available.
