Geneva High School DECA Members Qualify For State Competition

Eighteen students won awards, and thirteen students placed among the top 10, making them eligible for the state competition.

GENEVA, IL — Geneva High School students participating in DECA are moving on to compete in the state competition in February, officials announced.

The Geneva students competed Jan. 19 against 1,400 students from the area at the regional competition for the not-for-profit organization formerly known as the Distributive Education Clubs of America. Eighteen students won awards, and thirteen students placed among the top 10, making them eligible to compete at the state competition.

The organization helps high school and college students prepare for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.

The following students are moving on to the state competition:

  • Aiden Post, restaurant and food service management
  • Madison Rees, retail merchandising
  • Andrea Turek and Lilly Coats, buying and merchandising team
  • Cheng Shang and Eleanor Holt, entrepreneurship team
  • Xander Mercado and Lucas Oldham, financial services team
  • Olivia Pohlman and Gianna Oxler, hospitality services team
  • Caroline Madden and Marcella Anderson, travel and tourism team
  • Cam Fozo, principles of business management and administration
