Geneva High School Recognized As 2023 Blue Ribbon School

It's one of only four Illinois high schools honored, setting an example for "what it means to Raise the Bar in education," officials said.

GENEVA, IL — Geneva Community High School is one of only four high schools in Illinois to be named a National Blue Ribbon School this year by the U.S. Department of Education.

The distinction recognizes schools for exemplary teaching and learning, setting a national example for "what it means to Raise the Bar in education," U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona in a statement. Schools are identified based on academic criteria, including SAT scores and graduation rate.

Nationwide, 353 schools received the honor this year.

"We are thrilled that GHS is being recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School," Principal Tom Rogers said in a statement. "This award is made possible because of our incredible students, caring and dedicated faculty, staff and administration, and supportive parents and community. This is an award that recognizes the collective effort of all stakeholders in our amazing community that values education."

Geneva Community Unit School District 304 Superintendent Andy Barrett said the award shows "we all work together to create the type of caring and rigorous learning environment which we can all believe."
