The Kate at 318 to Open in Downtown Geneva
New Gathering Space Will Combine Dining, Events, and Community Programming

Geneva, IL – The Kate at 318 announced today that the landmark building at 318 South 3rd Street, formerly home to the well-loved Graham’s 318 Coffee House, is preparing for a vibrant new chapter. Soon to reopen as The Kate at 318, this reimagined space will invite friends, families, and neighbors to gather, dine, celebrate, and connect. Under the leadership of Joe Matty, Founding Partner of Marquette Hamlin Group, The Kate will combine exceptional food, welcoming event spaces, and community-focused programs in the heart of downtown Geneva.
Bringing this vision to life is Joe Matty, Founding Partner of Marquette Hamlin Group, who set out to create a place that feels like an extension of home and brings people together around food, connection, and community.
“The Kate has been a dream of mine for a long time,” Matty says. “I have always imagined a place where people could come together for everyday conversations or to celebrate life’s big milestones. It is a privilege to help carry forward the spirit of community that has always filled these walls. Whether you are stopping in for a morning pastry, meeting with colleagues, or hosting a special event, I hope The Kate will feel like an extension of home and become part of Geneva’s traditions for years to come.”

A Place Rooted in Family and Tradition
The Kate is named in honor of Matty’s wife and inspired by the women who shaped his life. Inside, guests will find spaces that feel personal and welcoming, from the Anne Gathering Room, named after his mother, to the Elizabeth Commons, which pays tribute to his mother-in-law.

Two Distinct Experiences Under One Roof
When The Kate opens later this year, it will introduce Geneva to two thoughtfully curated businesses:
- Bread & Vine: The vision of international culinary expert Chef Eric Bonnetain, Bread & Vine offers upscale French-inspired international food, pastries and craft cocktails in a casual atmosphere reminiscent of a French bistro. Guests will be able to enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day of the week, from a perfectly baked pinsa or a croque-monsieur to an elegant pastry and a glass of wine. Bread & Vine has already earned a loyal following at its flagship location in Galena and the new local owners Scott and Candace Campbell look forward to becoming part of the Geneva restaurant community. Bread & Vine is anticipated to open in November of 2025.
- Marquette Hamlin Group: Upstairs, Marquette Hamlin Group will establish its offices, continuing a mission to help nonprofits and businesses strengthen their work and connect with the people they serve. Founded in Chicago, the consultancy has spent more than a decade supporting organizations nationwide with philanthropy, marketing, and leadership expertise.
A Hub for Learning and Giving Back
As part of The Kate’s commitment to community impact, Marquette Hamlin Group will launch the MHG Philanthropy Workshop Series. Held on the first Wednesday of every month, these complimentary training sessions will empower nonprofit professionals, fundraisers, and volunteers with the skills and strategies they need to advance their missions. Topics will include annual giving, major gifts, grants, donor engagement, and more.
Celebrate and Gather in Style
The Kate will also offer two flexible event spaces perfect for showers, birthday parties, corporate meetings, and special gatherings. The Anne Gathering Room and the Elizabeth Commons can host groups of up to 120 guests, with warm, inviting décor and all the essentials for effortless entertaining.
