GENEVA, IL — Multiple lanes on East State Street will continue to be closed during the week of Dec. 1 for utility relocations, Geneva officials said.

AT&T and Nicor Gas are the two companies currently relocating underground infrastructure ahead of the full East State Street reconstruction project, tentatively expected to begin in spring 2026.

This week, AT&T crews are on the cusp of wrapping up work near Simpson Street and will then jump back into ductwork between Route 25 and Crissey Avenue, the latter of which will require an overnight eastbound lane closure. The section should reopen during the day, the city said.

Nicor Gas will continue working on East State Street east of Ridge/Briar Lane, nearing Glengarry Drive. As a result, eastbound drivers will be shifted to the north side of State Street, reducing Route 38 traffic to one lane in each direction.

Westbound State Street will be reduced to one lane between Woodlawn Street and Route 25 as a second Nicor crew works on the other side of the road, according to a news release.

Utility work has been weather-dependent and remains subject to change, officials said. The city continues to wait for future utility relocation schedules from Metronet and Comcast. The timeline of the reconstruction project depends on the relocations being completed.
