Nail Gun Mistaken For Gunfire, School Locked Down: Police

Geneva police said there was a dispute at a neighbor's residence, and nearby construction noises were mistaken for a single gunshot.

GENEVA, IL — Police responded to a report of gunfire Tuesday afternoon that turned out to be the sound of a construction worker using a nail gun, officials said.

At around 2:12 p.m., a resident on the 200 block of Lineas Lane called authorities after they heard screaming and yelling followed by what they believed was a gunshot at a neighbor's house, according to a news release.

The report drew a heavy police presence. Officers said a domestic dispute did take place, but that the gunshot noise was actually a nail gun, not a firearm. No arrests were made.
