See How James Street Parking Reconstruction Project Impacts Downtown Geneva

Construction began Thursday with excavation and sidewalk removal work.

GENEVA, IL — A parking reconfiguration project began Thursday on James Street, with the stretch between First to Second streets beginning to undergo excavation and sidewalk removal.

The road will remain open to traffic, but parking on both sides of James Sreet won't be available during construction. The sidewalk on the north side of James Street by City Hall and the old library building will be closed.

The driveway running behind City Hall will be closed Thursday and temporarily reopen Friday through the weekend before it closes again Monday and Tuesday while crews pour a new concrete surface that will need time to cure, city officials said.

The James Street entrance to City Hall will be open to the public Thursday evening for the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting. Visitors will need to use the sidewalk that wraps around the building to access the staircase.

Customers needing to pay their utility bill will not be able to access the drop box located behind City Hall. This is where other drop boxes are located throughout the city:
