Third Main Line Project Is Completed, Commuter Parking Lots Reopen In Geneva
The two commuter parking lots closed in 2022 to make way for Union Pacific to build a third railroad track from St. Charles to Geneva.
GENEVA, IL — Two Geneva commuter parking lots reopened Friday after Union Pacific's Third Main Line project was substantially completed.
The Route 31 overflow lot, south of the railroad overpass, and the Geneva Train Depot lot, located south of the tracks and west of Third Street, closed in 2022 for the construction of a third railroad track on the Union Pacific/Metra West Line from Kress Road in West Chicago through Geneva.
The third track was completed this summer, and trains have operated on the new line for about a month, Geneva officials said in a news release.

The Geneva Train Depot lot is only available for quarterly commuter parking permit holders, officials said. A three-month permit costs $100 for Geneva residents and $125 for non-residents. The overflow lot can be used for daily parking, costing $1.75 per day.
Union Pacific crews may still work along the railway as they finish minor punch list items related to the project, officials said.
