Schedule Released For Underground Electric Replacement Project In Geneva

Four areas of Geneva are scheduled to receive upgraded underground electrical equipment this year.

GENEVA, IL — The City of Geneva released the schedule for its upcoming underground electric replacement project slated to begin in July.

The program will begin July 7 in an effort to enhance electric service reliability in four areas throughout the city.

This is the schedule for the project:

  • South Harrison Street near Spring Street: July 7 to Aug. 18
  • James Street west of Ninth Street: Aug. 18 to Sept. 8
  • 2000 S. Batavia Ave.: Sept. 9-26
  • James Street from Third to Fifth streets: Sept. 27 to Oct. 29

Officials said construction dates are estimated and could change due to weather or other unplanned circumstances.

Utility Dynamics, the city's contractor, will install conduits through utility easements and public right-of-ways. Electrical transformers, pedestals and streetlights also will be replaced.

During the latter part of each project, the contractor will energize and connect residences to the new equipment, requiring power outages. Residents will be notified in advance of any service disruption, the city said.

Landscape restoration is planned once construction is completed.
