Women to Gather, Breastfeed in Geneva for Global 'Latch On'

Women will soon convene throughout Kane County to breastfeed in unison as part of a global effort to support and celebrate each other.

The Kane County Breastfeeding Coalition is hosting its First Annual Big Latch On next month at locations in Aurora, Elgin and Geneva, according to the organization's website. The Global Big Latch On takes place at registered locations around the world and events feature fun activities for children and parents, alike.

" ... Friends, family and community (members) join this celebration to promote and support breastfeeding," the coalition's website says. "(Those) hosting a Global Big Latch On create a lasting support network for the community."

Who’s invited? Breastfeeding women, pregnant women, moms, families, friends and supporters are welcome to join the celebration to promote and support breastfeeding as an infant feeding choice.

The Kane County Breastfeeding Coalition is formed by participants from diverse community sectors, including local hospitals, community health centers, WIC Programs, the Kane County Health Department, private lactation consultants, community groups that promote breastfeeding, and others. Members aim to engage all interested community members in improving health by making breastfeeding information and support available to new parents.

"The goal is to help parents make informed choices about breastfeeding as early as possible during pregnancy and to support that choice as soon as the baby is born," its website says.
