Apartment Fire Displaced 4 District 89 Students: How To Help

Gift cards, clothing and other necessities are being sought to help the families displaced in an apartment fire last week.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Community Consolidated School District 89 (CCSD 89) is holding a drive to collect gift cards, clothing and other necessities to help families who were impacted by a fire that ripped through an apartment complex in Glen Ellyn last week.

Four district students were among the nearly two dozen residents affected in the blaze, acccording to a news release from CCSD 89.

To aid in recovery efforts for the impacted families, District 89 is seeking the following:

  • Gift cards for Aldi, Jewel, Target and Walmart
  • Girls' shirts and bottoms, size 8
  • Children's shoes, size 12
  • Medium-sized women's shirts and bottoms
  • Medium-sized boys' shirts and bottoms

Donations will be accepted at the district office, 22W600 Butterfield Rd., Glen Ellyn, or can be sent via mail: CCSD 89, ATTN: Katie Kreller, 22w600 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137.

The fire started around 9 a.m. Thursday in the 700 block of Pershing Avenue. One resident jumped from the building's second floor to escape the blaze, the cause of which is still under investigaiton.
