December brings a host of holiday activities to Glen Ellyn.
GLEN ELLYN, IL — Thanksgiving came later than usual this year, which means Glen Ellyn is one of many local towns that feature a slew of festive holiday events come December.
The village's tree lighting ceremony will herald the start of the season on Nov. 29. After that, residents can delve into small business Saturday, share their wishes with Santa and admire the festively decorated widows downtown.

Donuts with Santa
Lake Ellyn Boathouse
Santa Claus will welcome children to share donuts and cocoa, make holiday-inspired crafts and enjoy other festive activities. Five time slots are available: Dec. 6 at 5:15 p.m. and Dec. 7 at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Dec. 8
Toys for Tots with Characters
1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Ackerman SFC
Nearly two dozen costumed characters will greet kids and pose for photos at Ackerman SFC for the annual Toys for Tots Drive. Attendees are encouraged to donate a new, unwrapped toy at this free event.
Dec. 13
Movie with Santa
6 p.m. at Ackerman SFC
Kids are encouraged to wear their most festive pajamas to watch "The Santa Clause" with Santa Claus. Bring along a lawn chair or blanket to relax on while you sip hot cocoa and snack on cookies. There will be time for photos with Santa after the film.

Dec. 14
Whoville Holiday
6:30 p.m. at Maryknoll Clubhouse
The 1966 "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" will be shown at this event, where kids can decorate cookies and enjoy hot cocoa. Winter-inspired arts and crafts will keep kids busy before an appearance by The Grinch.

Dec. 16 to Dec. 18
You've Been Grinched
Residents can "grinch" their friends with a visit from The Grinch. The grumpy green character will throw candy canes in yards and leave a "You've Been Grinched" sign on Dec. 16 and 18 between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The deadline to sign up is Dec. 9.

Dec. 19
Flashlight Candy Cane Hunt
5 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. at Spring Avenue Recreation Center
Arts, crafts, cookies and cocoa will help participants get into the holiday spirit as they use headlamps and flashlights to hunt for candy canes. Select candy canes will earn you a prize. Participants must bring flashlights and headlamps.
The fee is $15 for residents and $20 for nonresidents.,
