GLEN ELLYN, IL — Village officials have chosen a concept for parking along Crescent Boulevard as plans move forward with upgrades to the Glen Ellyn Metra station.

Of the four design concepts that were pitched were the stretch of road between Main and Forest, "alternate four" was chosen. This option will include angled parking along the street's north side.

There will be a single lane of travel, with no parking on the street's south side. Commuters can access additional parking in the Crescent and Main parking lot.

He added, "This allows us to maximize opportunities for additional outside federal funding to make the project a reality."

Plans for the new Metra station and multimodal access improvements have been in the works since before the pandemic. In 2019, the village was awarded a $14.4 million federal grant to help support the concept.

Expected upgrades include:

  • Improved accessibility
  • Reduced air emissions
  • Easier access to PACE pickups and dropoffs

The train station upgrades coincide with the next phase of Glen Ellyn's ongoing streetscape and utility work. The streetscape work will include maintenance to sidewalks and roadways, upgrades to curbs and gutters and improvements to lighting and other utilities.

It's expected the train station upgrades will begin in early 2026.
