Glen Ellyn Streetscape Project Award 'Nice Honor For The Community'
The village recently won a regional award from the American Public Works Association for its multiphase

GLEN ELLYN, IL — As Glen Ellyn finishes up the third phase of its four-part downtown streetscape and utility project, the village has received the 2025 Project of the Year Award from the American Public Works Association (APWA) Suburban Branch.
The award recognizes a standout project from the Chicago Metropolitan area with a budget between $5 million and $25 million.
“It’s a great achievement that reflects a lot of people’s hard work, not just the contractor and engineers but the whole community including our residents, Commissions and Village Board," Village Engineer Richard Daubert told Patch.

Glen Ellyn started phase one of the streetscape project in March 2022. The project has focused on replacing underground utility systems and reconstructing streets, along with improving hardscaping, landscaping and accommodations for pedestrians downtown.
The village partnered with A Lamp Concrete Contractors of Schaumburg and the Itasca-based BLA Consulting Engineers on construction for the initial three phases of the project downtown.

Daubert said the next phase of the project will focus on Crescent Boulevard between Main Street and Park Boulevard, along with Forest Avenue from Duane to Pennsylvania. This phase of the project will also include the significant development of building a new train station and pedestrian underpass beneath the Union Pacific West Railroad.
In 2020, APWA recognized the Taylor Avenue Pedestrian Underpass with its national Project of the Year Award for transportation category projects with budgets less than $5 million. Daubert said the village is hopeful the streetscape and utility project will also win at that level.
In the meantime, they will be honored for the Suburban Branch Project of the Year Award at an upcoming banquet in Schaumburg.
“This is a nice honor for the community," Daubert said. "This is about Glen Ellyn coming together to execute a project that is a significant improvement to the community with long-lasting benefits."
