GLEN ELLYN, IL — Lucy the Bernese Mountain Dog had been missing for four days when Glen Ellyn Patrol Officer Bartolo Montecinos II spotted her sitting against a wall on southbound I-355.

Montecinos, a self-proclaimed dog lover, had been out on errands following his 12-hour night shift when he said he chose to take I-355 and stop at the mile marker near where Lucy had last been seen. He told Patch the two-and-a-half-year-old dog was about 50 feet from the mile marker when he pulled over.

"My dogs are my family to me," Montecinos, who grew up with dogs as pets, told Patch, so it's no surprise he was eager to get Lucy reunited with hers. He said the entire family came to the Glen Ellyn Police Department to get Lucy.
