Recycling Extravaganza, Food Drive Planned At College Of DuPage

Swing by College of DuPage Sept. 18 to unload recyclable items and drop off donations for Glen Ellyn Food Pantry.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Before the fall and winter weather set in, Glen Ellyn residents can unload recyclable items at an upcoming Recycling Extravaganza planned for Sept. 18 at College of DuPage. The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will also include a food drive for Glen Ellyn Food Pantry.

The following items will be accepted for recycling or shredding at the Recycling Extravaganza:

  • American flags
  • Block-style packaging foam
  • Books
  • Brita water filters and pitchers
  • Coolers
  • Documents (residents only, no businesses; limit of two paper shopping bags of documents)
  • Foam ice chests, coolers and cups
  • Hand tools
  • Holiday lights
  • Inkjet cartridges
  • Keys
  • Lumber
  • Power tools
  • Vinyl records
  • Working bikes, helmets and bike accessories

Some items will be collected for a nominal fee. Accepted items and fees are as follows:

  • Latex paint ($3 for quart cans, $5 for gallon cans, $15 for 5-gallon buckets). Residents should not mix paints in a 5-gallon bucket. Credit cards, cash and check payments welcome.
  • Light bulbs, etc. ($.50 per fluorescent bulb, $1 per LED bulb, $10 per Mercury thermostat) Cash payments only.

The following items will not be accepted at the Recycling Extravaganza:

  • Chemicals
  • Electronic items
  • Electrical ballasts
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Hazardous waste
  • Oil-based paints and stains
  • Propane tanks
  • Prescription drugs

Residents are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to donate to Glen Ellyn Food Pantry.

What: Recycling Extravaganza

When: Sept. 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn (head to parking lot 6 in southwest part of campus)

Patch has partnered with Feeding America to help raise awareness on behalf of the millions of Americans facing hunger. Feeding America, which supports 200 food banks across the country, estimates that in 2020, more than 50 million Americans will not have enough nutritious food to eat due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
