Remembering Barry A. Koeppel, 79, Formerly Of Glen Ellyn
Barry A. Koeppel is remembered for his "legendary" fireworks shows and for his love of his grandchildren.

Barry A. Koeppel, a resident of Des Plaines and formerly of Glen Ellyn, passed away on June 12, 2023, at the age of 79. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Barry was the devoted husband of Carol (nee Peacock) for 48 wonderful years. Barry was the loving father of Andy (Meghan) and the dearest grandfather of Molly and Connor. He was also a dear brother to Diane Madsen of Downers Grove and Darlene (Bill) Andresen of Woodridge. Barry was a brother-in-law to Bonnie (Tony) Matchus of Texas and a fond uncle to eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Helen (nee Vensel), his in-laws, Charles and Jeanne Heisler, and his brother-in-law, Paul Madsen.
Raised in Villa Park, Barry attended Willowbrook High School before pursuing his education at Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where he earned a degree in accounting. He dedicated his professional career to Occidental Petroleum Corporation, working as an accountant until his retirement. Barry and Carol made their home in Glen Ellyn for 40 years, where he could often be found coaching Andy’s little league teams, playing golf at the Village Links of Glen Ellyn, and cheering on his favorite Chicago sports teams, with a special place in his heart for the Cubs. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially over the 4th of July holiday, putting on his own legendary fireworks show. Nothing brought him more joy in the later years of his life than his grandchildren.
A visitation to honor Barry's life will be held on Friday, June 16, from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM at Brust Funeral Home, located at 135 S. Main St., Lombard, IL. The Interment will be held privately.
