GLEN ELLYN, IL — A project to improve ADA accessibility throughout Glen Ellyn is underway. The village kicked off its ADA Transition Plan with a public meeting on Feb. 25 and is seeking input from residents to help identify places that could benefit from accessibility improvements.

On March 17, crews will begin evaluating sidewalks throughout Glen Ellyn, checking to see if alterations are needed to make them more accessible. Information about curb ramps will be included in the data collection. Traffic signals and bus stops will also be reviewed to ensure they meet ADA standards.

In an update on its website, the Village of Glen Ellyn shared, "This plan will identify and assess barriers that currently impede accessibility on roads, sidewalks, crosswalks and other components of the public right-of-way. Based on village priorities and community feedback, high priority sidewalks will be identified and plans developed to improve accessibility throughout the village."

The village has created an interactive map to allow residents to identify and comment on areas that provide challenges for pedestrians, with or without accessibility limitations. Residents may use the map to place a pin at a location and add a comment.

As of March 10, residents had remarked that improved sidewalk access is needed near the Frank Johnson Center, near the intersection of Sunnybrook and Glenbard Roads. Another resident wrote that sidewalk and building accessibility is difficult near Shear Pandemonia salon on Crescent Boulevard.
