Women's claims nearby Glenview car fire damaged her car also
GLENVIEW, Ill. – A car fire in a parking lot in The Glen on Halloween morning was quickly overshadowed by a heated argument between the vehicle's owners and a neighboring employee of the building over alleged collateral damage.
The Glenview Fire Department responded to the fire at 2700 Patriot Boulevard, just south of Willow Road in The Glen, at approximately 8:45 a.m. on Friday. Upon arrival, firefighters found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames but were able to extinguish the fire quickly.
Glenveiw Fire Chief Tony DeRose reported that the fire originated in the engine compartment before spreading to the passenger area. He confirmed that both occupants had safely exited the vehicle and did not require medical attention.

“The car was parked in the northeast corner of the lot, minimizing risk to other vehicles,” Chief DeRose said. “Personnel helped retrieve their belongings, cleaned the area, and handed the scene over to the police.”
The situation escalated when a woman parked nearby claimed that her car was damaged by burning debris from the fire. A loud argument then broke out between her and the boyfriend of the car fire victim.

“You are just trying to make money off of this - your car was not even next to her car,” the man was heard yelling. He later accused her of claiming damage to the side of her vehicle that faced away from the burning car.
Shopping cart attendants from the nearby Costco store reported seeing the incident unfold from a distance. One employee mentioned seeing a "pillar of dark black smoke rising about a mile above the Glen area" at around 8:40 a.m., initially leading them to believe it was a business fire.
After the argument turned to yelling, Glenview Police officers were called over the cars. An officer on site told the two parties to exchange insurance information, but told the women, “We cannot tell if the damage was caused by the car fire near your car.”
The vehicle that caught fire is considered a total loss, with video from the scene showing extensive damage, including a melted steering wheel. A video of the argument was posted online.
