Four Hair Salons Near Downtown Glenview Closing

GLENVIEW – A wave of change is sweeping through the hair salon scene near downtown Glenview, with four establishments closing their doors, leaving stylists seeking new homes and clients searching for a new place for a trim.

The most recent announcement comes from Magic Scissors Hair and Spa, which will be closing in the next couple of weeks. The salon, currently located at 3226 Glenview Road at the intersection of Glenview Road and Greenwood, has been unable to find a buyer after a months-long search. Magic Scissors has a long history in the area, having first opened in Des Plaines in 1977 before relocating to its current Glenview location in 2021, a space that was previously home to another salon. While the business is closing, several of its stylists are expected to continue their work at On Stage at Plaza Del Prado in Glenview.

Magic Scissors is not alone in its departure. Two other salons in the vicinity have recently shut down. Raymond’s Hair Design and Spa at 1709 Glenview Road has closed, and another salon, which has requested anonymity until it can successfully sell its client list, has also ceased operations. The realtor for the space at 1790 Glenview Road confirmed it is now available for lease.

A fourth salon is also planning to close but has not yet informed its customers. The owners have requested not to be named in this article and indicated they will issue a formal press release on November 5, 2025.

For clients of the closing salons, the search for a new stylist begins. According to Google and Yelp reviews, the top-rated salon in Glenview is Scruples Salon and Spa. The salon has earned glowing testimonials from local residents.

“I cannot say enough amazing things about Ben at Scruples Glenview. Truly the most talented and passionate stylist I have ever met,” said customer Dana Barlja.

Another client, Isabelle Hristova of Glenview, added, “Ninos at Scruples is by far the best stylist in the Chicago area.”

The closures highlight the competitive nature of the local beauty industry. According to Yelp, Glenview has more hair salons per capita than any other city in Illinois.

The recent shuttering of multiple businesses evokes memories of a different era for the downtown area. Many long-time Glenview residents recall the heyday of downtown, anchored by the institution of Arena Hair Styling. The salon operated a shop for men and a second for women at 1712 Glenview Road, reigning for decades as the most popular hair salon in the village before its own closure marked the end of an earlier chapter in Glenview's history.
