Glenview History Center's Farmhouse Museum reopens

Visitors attend Sept. 20 grand reopening

Visitors arrived in a steady stream Saturday, September 20, as the Glenview History Center reopened its Farmhouse Museum after more than two years of major repairs and renovations.

The reopening featured six new exhibits:

  • the front room provides an overall look at Glenview's history, with an engaging panel showing "then and now" portraits of Glenview landmarks, a continuous video timeline and maps showing Glenview's growth
  • an homage to Glenview's service organizations, past and present, with artifacts, articles and a continuous video of photos
  • a room with photos and documents honoring the 60 years of the Glenview History Center (founded in 1965 as the Glenview Area Historical Society) and the volunteers who are and have been crucial to its existence
  • a gallery with art works of familiar Glenview places from GHC's collection
  • a display of instruments from GHC's collection, along with photos, programs and artifacts depicting Glenview's musical past
  • the Hutchings' bedroom, with materials explaining the family's early history and contributions to Glenview's growth, especially in the downtown area

The museum is one of the ways GHC is fulfilling its mission to be a dedicated resource for Glenview
history and to honor and engage with the diverse stories that enrich our understanding of our community. Along with the GHC Board of Directors, GHC's new curator, Riley Ellison, helped plan, install and manage the exhibits.
