Glenview To Receive $225K For Bridge Replacement Project: Cook County
Transportation-related projects throughout Cook County were approved for funding Thursday by the Board of Commissioners.
GLENVIEW, IL — Saying the bridge needs to be replaced "due to normal lifespan deterioration," the Cook County Board of Commissioners approved a $225,000 project Thursday to construct a replacement for the Central Street pedestrian bridge in Glenview. It was part of a number of transportation-related projects to receive funding throughout the county through the Department of Transportation and Highways.
According to officials, "these vital projects boost economic development, build up regional transportation and improve the quality of life throughout Cook County."
The Glenview Park District is overseeing the project. The pedestrian bridge, constructed in 1963, is located between Central Road and Raleigh Road, over the West Fork of the North Branch of the Chicago River. Officials said the bridge serves about 1,300 residents and is the only location that provides a pedestrian and bicycle friendly crossing within 0.5-miles of their home.
