Glenview, IL: The latest US Food and Drug Administration report dated May 16, 2014 states that, “ Since FDA’s last update on October 22, 2013, we have received approximately 1,800 additional case reports. As of May 1, 2014, we have received in total more than 4,800 complaints of illness in pets that ate chicken, duck, or sweet potato jerky treats, nearly all of which are imported from China.” The report includes 5,600 dogs with over 1,000 canine deaths. Over 60% of those reported cases are liver/gastrointestinal, 30% kidney or urinary disease, and 10% other. Also, about 15% of the urinary cases also have Fanconi syndrome, a rare kidney disease.

Glenview resident Vicky Price first learned of these occurrences 2 years ago and, in response, created CoopersWay Gourmet Jerky Treats made from all natural products which are naturally--not chemically--dehydrated (jerky treats that are chemically treated go through multiple chemical baths). CoopersWay jerky use the shortest possible ingredient list: only ONE INGREDIENT per product, and as such are grain free, additive-preservative-and salt free. All ingredients (fresh not frozen, chicken, pork, beef, and sweet potatoes) are sourced as locally as possible, indeed from the same providers as local restaurants. Ms Price stated on a recent radio show, in response to the mounting death toll, “I want to make the best product possible…I’m not going to take any shortcuts.” She has brought the passion that she has from rescuing dogs individually to helping all dogs collectively by providing safer healthy treats.
