GLENVIEW, IL — For the past six years, North Shore residents have been enjoying freshly brewed java and more at Hometown Coffee & Juice, an expanding business owned by a local couple. Lou and Julie Rubin, of Glencoe, recently opened their fourth coffee shop at 1127 Depot St. in Glenview.

Hometown Coffee & Juice also has locations in Glencoe (opened in 2019), Winnetka (2021) and Lake Forest (2024).

"When you walk into Hometown, you'll immediately feel the energy and life in their beautiful space," said Lauren Svendsen, membership and events manager for the Glenview Chamber of Commerce said. "It is a place where they love seeing customers turn into friends, and having those friends feel like family."

While coffee might be the highlight of the menu for many, the shop also specializes in smoothies, specialty toasts, bagels, teas, sandwiches and more. Hometown Coffee & Juice, which also offers catering options, is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

In August 2024, Hometown Coffee & Juice was one of five businesses approved by the Glenview Village Board for redevelopment agreements in downtown Glenview. The property, located across from the Metra station, was formerly occupied by Middy Mags Pizzeria and The Noodle restaurant.

"There is so much momentum in our downtown right now," Village President Michael Jenny said at the time. "More activation in the downtown benefits everyone, and we look forward to working with our new and existing business owners on a downtown we can all be proud of."

Hometown Coffee & Juice and the property owner received a $500,000 grant from the Village to demolish an industrial building, add surface parking and outdoor dining amenities, in addition to remodeling of the tenant space.

A fifth location in Northbrook is also planned, approved by the Northbrook Village Board last year, as part of a downtown revitalization strategy there.
