ICE Enforcement in front of GBS Prompts Glenview State Representive Legislation and Community Concern.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents apprehended a man in front of Glenbrook South High School at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025. The enforcement action occurred during an ICE operation on Robin Drive, a street that dead-ends near the school property.
Carol Smith, District 225 Communications Director, stated that while the incident happened near Glenbrook South High School, ICE agents did not enter the school building. However, one parent, who wished to remain anonymous, reported that her daughter came home from school terrified, claiming the agents were on school property. In response to these conflicting accounts, this publication has contacted the district under the Freedom of Information Act to review security video footage. Residents are seeking clarity on whether federal agents were on school grounds.
In the wake of this event, Glenview State Senator Laura Fine has introduced Senate Bill 2712. The comprehensive legislation aims to protect access to essential services and strengthen privacy when federal immigration enforcement occurs at schools, hospitals, and other locations across Illinois.
“Making sure that people feel safe in our communities, schools, and hospitals is our responsibility as lawmakers in Illinois,” said Fine (D-Glenview). “This bill gives teachers, essential healthcare workers, and law enforcement the tools to do their jobs while keeping our neighborhoods safe from fear-based enforcement and federal overreach."
The proposed bill would require school districts to notify parents, students, and staff when immigration enforcement is confirmed on campus. It would also mandate that healthcare facilities adopt policies to prevent immigration agents from entering nonpublic treatment areas without a judicial warrant. Additionally, the legislation seeks to boost privacy protections by ensuring automatic license plate reader data is not shared with federal immigration agents.
State Sen. Celina Villanueva (D-Chicago), who is the lead sponsor on a related courts measure and involved in broader immigration discussions, voiced strong support for such actions. She said she would “fight like hell with my colleagues in order to try to do whatever the hell we can in order to try to protect people.”
Glenview police confirmed that ICE agents have been operating in the village recently but stated they were notified only after the enforcement actions had occurred.
These incidents are part of a series of ICE raids in Glenview and unincorporated Glenview over the last two weeks. One area of concentration has been Dearlove Road, specifically the apartments between Milwaukee and Central Avenues.
Additional apprehensions have taken place at the Glenview Home Depot. One man was taken by ICE on October 2, and another on October 10, 2025. Hispanic day laborers frequently gather in the store's parking lot, seeking work from contractors who are picking up supplies, a common occurrence at many Home Depot locations.
A representative with the Chicago Hispanic Health Coalition said they have been contacted by Hispanic residents living in the suburbs, including North Shore towns such as Glenview and Highland Park. The representative cited records showing over 4,000 Hispanic individuals live in Glenview. “We received a phone call last week from a family that was living at Sunset Village Trailer Park in Glenview and fled to a hotel in Madison, Wisconsin,” the representative said. “They were asking if it was safe to come home.”
The representative added that the family was fearful because they had heard that Hispanics and white individuals had been receiving tickets for not having paperwork showing they are American citizens. This claim of law enforcement questioning individuals about their citizenship status was recently referenced in an article by the Chicago Tribune.
