Mortgage Payment Check Mailed At Post Office Stolen: Glenview Police Blotter

A resident said the check had been altered and cashed at the bank, according to police.

Gilbert De Jesus Navas Pina, 22, of the 1000 block of Cottonwood Lane, Mount Prospect, is accused of having no valid driver's license, no insurance, registration suspended for no insurance, and was arrested at 9:18 p.m. Nov. 12, in the 1600 block of Joy Lane. He was released and assigned a court date of Dec. 19.

AGGRAVATED BATTERY

Patrick Dempsey, 53, of the 1800 block of W. Roscoe Street, Chicago, is accused of aggravated battery, and was arrested at 12:02 p.m. Nov. 13, at the Glenview Police Department. The charge followed an investigation into an incident on Oct. 30 in the 2900 block of Old Willow Road. He was released and assigned a court date of Oct. 30.

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Employees for a business in the 3500 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported at 11:30 p.m. Nov. 11, a customer had thrown two chairs, causing damage to drywall and molding.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Brandon Road resident called police at 11:49 a.m. Nov. 11, to report receiving a job offer from where they were advised to purchase items using their own credit card. The victim refused, but later received an email from the same address that had their identifying information.
  • A Montgomery Lane resident reported at 4:57 p.m. Nov. 12, someone had withdrawn $40,000 from his bank account.
  • A Winchester Lane resident reported at 2:41 p.m. Nov. 17, receiving two fraudulent Verizon Wireless bills for an account they did not open.

RETAIL THEFT

  • Employees of a business in the 2500 block of Waukegan Road called police at 5:15 p.m. Nov. 12, to report a male and female had taken three bottles of alcohol and left the store without paying.
  • Employees at a business in the 1500 block of Waukegan Road called police at 9:13 a.m. Nov. 13, to report someone had set off the emergency alarm for the back doors. It was discovered that the person had taken a tool set and left out the emergency doors without payment.
  • A loss prevention officer for a business in the 2200 block of Willow Road reported at 2:56 p.m. Nov. 17, a resident had taken $120.77 in merchandise without paying. They were issued a village ordinance citation for theft.

BURGLARY FROM VEHICLE

A resident in the 200 block of Greenwood Road reported that at around 5:10 a.m. Nov. 14, someone had entered their unlocked car.

THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLE

A resident in the 3700 block of Countryside Lane reported at 8:05 a.m. Nov. 15, someone had stolen the rear license plate off their vehicle while it was parked.

THEFT

A resident called police at 11:45 a.m. Nov. 15, to report their wallet had been stolen by someone while they were at a business in the 2100 block of Pfingsten Road. The wallet contained credit cards, which the suspect attempted to use in different locations.

FORGERY

A resident in the 400 block of Country Lane reported on Nov. 16 that a mortgage payment check they mailed at the Village of Golf Post Office had been stolen, altered, and fraudulently cashed at an unknown bank on Oct. 13.
