American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and other like Veteran Service Organizations (VSO) posts provide an important component to the fabric of any community.

For reasons easy to determine and hard to determine the latest generation of veteran warriors are not joining American Legion and VFW posts the way our brothers and sisters have in the past. Even me, I have been a Legion AND VFW Life Member for 31 years as a result of my own deployment to Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Being a member and being a member-leader are two very different things. More on that later.

On Sunday, August 8, 2022 at Marcello's Restaurant (Northbrook, IL.) the George W. Benjamin American Legion Post #791 (1354 Shermer Rd., Northbrook) held a dinner and ceremony to recognize the immediate Pact Commander of the post and the installation of our new Commander Tom Kittler.

In addition Vice Commander Jim Karol has been elevated from Junior to Senior Vice Commander for the next term.

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization. Focusing on service to veterans, servicemembers and communities, the Legion evolved from a group of war-weary veterans of World War I into one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the United States.

At the Northbrook Veteran's Center we host American Legion Post #791. the American Legion Auxiliary (Spouses & Daughters), Sons of the American Legion and Legion Riders. In addition, the NVC hosts the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #10236. The American Legion and VFW posts host meetings the first (Executive), second (Business) and third (Social) Tuesday of every month at 1354 Shermer Road in Northbrook.

Now, maybe more than ever, every community needs their Legion and VFW posts to help cinch the fabric together that is our community. Will you join us??
