GLENVIEW, IL — Oil Lamp Theater is hoping to soon build a larger space for its programming, and won't have to look very far for a spot to do it. Based in Glenview since 2012, the company recently launched its "Light the Way" campaign to fund construction of a new theater directly across the street. It would have a seating capacity of 143, more than double the amount of seats available now at 1723 Glenview Road.

According to Oil Lamp, the new venue will feature improved accessibility, enhanced sight lines, and flexible staging to accommodate larger productions, live music, and special events, while maintaining an intimate audience experience. Programming expansion includes additional classes and workshops for all ages, artist conversations, and youth and family performances.

"We are thrilled to be part of the energy and excitement surrounding the 'Light the Way Campaign' for Oil Lamp Theater," said Kay Laurie and Jeff Zehe, campaign committee members, in a statement. "The expansion of our hometown live theater in downtown Glenview will help ensure the success of the downtown revitalization now in progress."

With more than 70 productions to date, Oil Lamp is known for its dynamic Mainstage season, special events and its resilience during the pandemic, when it innovated with drive-in performances and outdoor productions.
