Rocktemberfest is The CURE for Glenview

Saturday is a night of outdoor 80s tunes and community giving in Glenview

GLENVIEW, Ill. – The annual Rocktemberfest concert returns this Saturday, September 13, promising an evening of iconic alternative rock while supporting a network of local charities. This year’s headliner, Chicago’s premier Cure tribute band "Primary," is ready to make the suburbs echo with the sounds of the 80s.

The event, held from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at 1948 Lehigh Road, is the primary fundraiser for Making Life Better in Glenview, a public charity composed of local professionals. For attendees, it’s a chance to enjoy great music and food for a great cause.
“You have to realize you are helping others out that are less fortunate,” said former Glenview resident Hanson, who attended last year. “You get to hear great music, eat great food and help others out... I look forward to listening to Primary - I have been a Cure fan since the 80s.”
The musical lineup features Big Boss & The Toes, a classic rock cover band, opening the show at 6:30 p.m. Primary, dedicated to faithfully recreating the music of The Cure, will hit the stage at 8:30 p.m. The band formed over 15 years ago and found its niche after a positive reception to its Cure covers.
“We are just big fans of the music and we love to recreate it in a live setting,” a band representative said. The group is named after a Cure song released in 1981. Primary member include Niko Stavropoulos a vocals and guitarist, Chris Dorff on guitars, Eric McWhorter playing bass guitar with Rob Oliver on keyboards, and dummer Dan Craig. The band has been together in one form or another with various members for 15 years. The band became a Cure tribute band because they were asked to do a few Cure songs many years ago and had so much fun and received such positive feedback that they kept doing Cure songs. “We are just big fans of the music and we love to recreate it in a live setting”, said a band representative. The band is named after a Cure song released in March 1981. The track was co-produced by Robert Smith and Mike Hedges.
Oak at The Glen will provide food and drinks for the event. Tickets are $85 at the gate, advance tickets for a lower amount are no longer available.
The true headliner of the night, however, is community support. Proceeds from Rocktemberfest benefit a consortium of local charities, including the Northfield Township Food Pantry, which stated it is “thrilled to be a beneficiary.”
Other supported organizations include Family Service Center, which provides affordable mental health counseling; Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook, focused on the social and emotional well-being of children; Boys Hope Girls Hope of Illinois; and Sister Paulanne’s Needy Family Fund, which has offered financial crisis assistance and hope to local families for over thirty years.
Making Life Better in Glenview uses the event to fuel its mission of forming meaningful relationships through charitable work. So for one night in September, the community can come together to enjoy a classic soundtrack and ensure vital support continues for its most vulnerable residents all year long.
