Roof started! New Spiro's Deli on Track for 2026 Opening, Says Construction Crew
The move is fueled by community and financial support. Last year, the Village of Glenview approved a $595,000 forgivable loan.
GLENVIEW, Ill. – The construction of Spiro's Deli's new downtown location is running on schedule, with the beloved eatery on track to welcome customers in early to mid-2026, according to a worker at the site.
The update comes from a crew member with United Plumbing and Drain, who confirmed that work is progressing smoothly at 1880 Glenview Road, the future home of the famous deli directly across the street from the Glenview Public Library. The project, with a total development cost of $1.25 million, involved demolishing the former dry cleaners that stood on the lot and constructing the new building for the restaurant.
The move is fueled by community and financial support. Last year, the Village of Glenview approved a $595,000 forgivable loan to help bring the local institution to the downtown core. This funding was part of a larger initiative where the village served up millions of dollars to local restaurants from its Permanent Fund, which was established with proceeds from the redevelopment of the former Glenview Naval Air Station.

For residents like Jerry Wilson, who was walking his dog nearby, the investment is a welcome one. "It is the one restaurant that I am really happy that they received funds from the village of Glenview," Wilson said, expressing his excitement for the new location. "I can’t wait to eat at their new location. I already know I’m going to get the Bomber," he added, naming one of the famous sandwiches, like the Poor Boy, that the deli has been serving for decades.
Since its original opening in 1967, Spiro's has become a Glenview staple, earning a stellar 4.6-star rating on Google Reviews for its popular subs. The new location which is 1400 square foot modern design building featuring a deli counter, kitchen area, indoor tables, and outdoor tables during warmer months was designed by architect Jeffery Heaney, marking a new chapter for the beloved deli as it prepares to continue its legacy in the heart of Glenview.

The new location appears like it might have about six parking places, which is a big commodity in downtown Glenview. There is also nearby street parking and then customers could park in the dairy bar parking lot when they are closed in the winter months. Also, the library is across the street and there should be parking available there on Sundays. Currently, there are no signs up in the library parking lot that says you must be going into the library if you park there. Additionally, catty corner to the New Delhi is a large drip mall which has a significant amount of parking also.
The village is constantly looking at new parking options for downtown. The village recently purchased the patio shop for 2.1 million and completely demolished it and is currently installing a parking lot which looks like it may hold 40 or 50 spots. That is about a block away from the deli, but is definitely an option.
