A New Year, A New Me: Week Five

Tracking my quest for fitness.

I hate the scale. And apparently, the feeling is mutual.

I've been putting off writing this column since Monday night's class at The Fitness Pursuit. Let's just say my results on the scale were a little...off. I went up 0.6 pounds. (Insert inappropriate language here and loud screams here.)

If you want to read the "I dropped 14 pounds in 3 days" story that is always on the cover of every woman's magazine, this ain't it. Unfortunately. I wish it was. But, wait a minute, no I don't.

I am doing a lifestyle change. It won't be quick or easy. But it will be worth it. It will be long lasting. And that's what I want. I want to lose weight to improve my diabetes, to have my clothes fit better, to increase my energy and to look better during swimsuit season.Β

I still love the program at TFP. Coach Lauri is great, very challenging but also very supportive. She said one bad week is nothing to stress about, and to just get back into the program. What also really helped was the support of the other class members who all said they had been there too.

So - I am re-focused on what I can control (my efforts) instead of what I can't (the results). Last week, I burned nearly 8,400 calories which should have amounted to a 2.4 pound weight loss. But it didn't. The culprit could have been hormones or too much salty foods or diabetes issues or stress or...who knows? A conspiracy by my scale to mess with my mind??

I am working towards a much better week next week. But I'll keep the gun handy just in case.
