A New Year, A New Me: Week Six

An update on my quest for fitness.

This was a much better week. I lost 3.2 pounds, bringing my total in the first month of the program at The Fitness Pursuit to 8 pounds down. My body fat percentage is down 3 percent. My water levels, measuring how hydrated I am, have increased, which is good.

You may not be that impressed with these numbers. There is no "15 pounds in 7 days" results here. But honestly, I am thrilled. I am changing my thoughts about what constitutes success. I am not interested anymore in short-term, quick but short-lived results that come back as soon as you go off the program.

This is a new mindset for me. I know how hard it is to actually work off a pound (3,500 calories). I have been literally working my butt off. And it will continue. I will continue to get slimmer and healthier.

The group support in theΒ 10-week "Lose 20-40 Pounds" programΒ at TFP is awesome. Everyone is there for their own reasons, starting at different weights and fitness levels, but everyone is supportive of everyone else. In four weeks, the group of 10 people have lost a combined total ofΒ 96.7 pounds.

I wanted to take a group photo but this week, Coach Lauri Robinson and Coach Kelli Richter put us through a killer boot-camp style workout that left everyone looking pretty rough. Maybe next week.

Richter said the workout demonstrated that it is possible to get a good workout and burn calories at home, with just simple tools like hand weights and resistance bands. Congratulations to Diana N., winner of the toughest abs competition!Β

So we did pushups, situps, leg lifts and mountain climbers (which I detest!). Basic tasks, one after the next, until we got a good calorie burn in. I'm sore, but still making progress.
