Cacao Sweets & Treats Bringing Cupcakes, Truffles and More to Grayslake

The shop is set to open in early May.

Craving sweets? You'll soon be able to satisfy your sweet tooth at a new bakery in downtown Grayslake.

Cacao Sweets & Treats, a popular vendor at the Grayslake Farmers Market for the past three years, will open a permanent location at 122 Center St. in early May, said owner Candice Husinger.

Cacao specializes in natural and organic sweets, Hunsinger said. Eggs, for example, come from Prairie Crossing, and milk comes from an organic Illinois dairy.

Hunsinger started the business about three and a half years ago. She currently rents kitchen space and then sells her products online and at places like Whole Foods.

She decided to open a permanent shop here in town because "there's always been a lack of a bakery in downtown Grayslake," said Hunsinger.

"I've already been inundated with calls," Hunsinger said of the response to her plan to set up shop in Grayslake. "I'm excited."

Cacao Sweets & Treats will offer all of the items that are now offered on the company's website, including favorites like the Champagne Cocktail Cupcakes, Chocolate Salted Caramel Cupcakes and Guinness Stout Beer Cupcakes. There are also items like Cashew Brownies, S'mores Bars, Oatmeal Cream Pies and Cake Truffles.

Hunsinger said flavors will likely be offered on a rotating basis. There will also be some breads, cinnamon rolls and muffins, she said.
