Cemetery Walk Brings History To Life

In honor of the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War, seven costumed reenactors on Sunday, Oct. 2 will talk about some of the 15 Grayslake area Civil War soldiers and their families during the Cemetery Walk in the Grayslake Cemetery on Lake Street near the intersection of Route 120.   

 will include a walk through the cemetery to hear some stories about the men who served, about their families and also a little history of the war. There will be two performances at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The Cemetery Walk continues to be an annual event hosted by the Grayslake Historical Society. Parking for the free program will be in the parking lot of the adjacent . The program will be held rain or shine.   

The program will be hosted by Maria Forvor, an early settler whose family in the 1860s deeded the land used as the Grays Lake Cemetery.    

Telling their stories of the Civil War era in the Grayslake area will be: Dighton Granger,  Chauncey Morse, Charles O. Hendee, John T. Morrill, Eveline Gray Houghton Barron, Frank Drummond, Rhoda Battershall Rich and Mary Barron Ellis.
