"I like the outpouring of support that we see from people," Spoder said. "Even in these hard times, people have opened up and have been giving. They are very generous."
ThisΒ is the fourth year the Lake County Sheriff's Office will participate in the statewide event to help raise money and awareness for Special Olympics.
McNichol, who heads up the campaign for the LCSO, said he wanted to break last year's fund raising record of $2,682. There were 5 to 10 officers who helped with the Cop on a Rooftop event yesterday. McNichol and Spoden worked with Reserve Deputy Dario Frank, Retired Deputy Darryl Lewallen and Deputy Mike Platt, who climbed up on the roof of Dunkin Donuts.
People who donated received a free donut, so that was a win-win. People who donated $10 or more received a coffee mug. Other items available included Special Olympic Torch Run T-shirts and hats for $15.
The Special Olympic Torch Run will be held on June 9.
