Divers Explore Depths Of Grayβs Lake
Community cleanup of Gray's Lake also will provide opportunities to see scuba divers and collect "buried treasure."
Mitch Sjolin, owner and instructor at , signals βOKβ to his diving partner as they prepare to submerge into the depths of Grayβs Lake on an exploratory dive to determine where divers will clean the lake bottom of debris as part of the first Grayβs Lake Cleanup and Treasure Hunt.
The event is open to the public. It begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11, with registration of volunteers at Jones Island Park, at Harvey Street and Alleghany Road, Grayslake.
Scuba divers also will hunt for sunken treasure and demonstrate their equipment and diving skills for volunteers. Sjolin, of in Grayslake, will lead the group of scuba divers.Β

One of the five treasure chests in the hunt will be placed in a βdry bagβ and dropped to the lakeβs bottom for the divers to find. In addition to removing debris from the lake bottom and hunting for sunken treasure, the divers will be demonstrating equipment and diving skills for the volunteers.
Free diving certificates from Big Kahuna Scuba will be included in the treasure chest
prizes. Participants at the event will also receive a free T-shirt and a tote bag. Every gold coin found during the treasure hunt wins a prize.
