Grayslake Central And North Choirs Performing At Disney World

High school choirs from both of the Grayslake High Schools are down at Walt Disney World for a special performance on Nov. 26.

Forty-three members of the , under the direction of Jennifer White and Paul Nielsen, have been selected to perform today, Saturday, Nov. 26 at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

The choirs are participating in one of Disney’s holiday performing arts programs – the “Candlelight Processional.” The special performance features a mass choir accompanied by the 50-member Disney Orchestra and will be held in the American Pavilion at Epcot.

The featured narrator for the program will be Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino.

Disney invites student music groups to apply for performance opportunities year-round. The selection process includes preparing audio and video audition materials, as well as a group resume. 

Grayslake choirs have performed numerous times at Disney, most recently Grayslake Central’s appearance during spring break in March of 2010.

The Candlelight Processional program takes place on weekends between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, and allows students to perform with other singers from across the country, Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico. 

The students' preparation includes mastery and memorization of over 15 musical selections which they learn prior to arriving at Disney.

The Grayslake choirs return home on Nov. 28.
