Grayslake Library Offers More Convenient Library Card Policies
Library customers can enjoy new ways to make the library more convenient and fun.
The has recently made several changes to their Library Card policies in order to provide greater convenience and ease of use for their patrons.
Patrons will now have a much easier time renewing library cards. Gone are the days when most patrons carry their driverβs license and checkbook with them and, now, gone are the days when we require two forms of ID to renew a library card.Β
For a speedy renewal, cardholders must simply present their library card and a driverβs license (or Illinois State ID) whose address matches the one on the library card account and they are ready to go! Itβs quick and easy. Cards will be renewed for three years, and those who arenβt certain when their card expires can login online (using their barcode and PIN) to verify the expiration date.

The Grayslake Library has also made it easier for patrons to give others permission to pick up holds, check out or renew items, reserve materials and pay fines or fees for them. The Illinois Library Records Confidentiality Act (75 ILCS 70/1-2) prevents the library from giving family members or helpers access to othersβ accounts in any way. Patrons can now come to the library, however, and sign a form that allows an individual or multiple individuals, access to their account.Β
The primary person who is granted access can have their own library card or driverβs license number scanned into the patronβs account, so they will not have to carry the patronβs library card with them. Anyone other than the primary person must use the patronβs library card to pick up items or perform other functions. They can present one of the account holderβs two cards (regular or keychain) which are given to patrons when they register.Β

If visitors have questions, there are informational pamphlets that explain patron privacy policy and procedures available at the libraryβs circulation desk.Β
There have been some other helpful changes too. Parents can now register their child at any age they choose. Reciprocal borrower cards from children of any age will also be honored. This means families have an opportunity to check out even more AV materials.
In todayβs busy world with so many time constraints and challenges, the staff at Grayslake Library has pledged to continually strive to find new ways to improve their services and the resources they provide to their patrons. They continue to look for new ways to make visiting and using the library more convenient, enriching and fun.
