Labor Day Drunk Driving, Seat belt Crackdown In Lake County
Here's when the Lake County Sheriff's Department is taking part in the statewide crackdown.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — As Labor Day festivities are being planned across Lake County and the state, the Lake County Sheriff's Office is teaming up with Illinois State Police and local law enforcement across Illinois to conduct a traffic safety campaign focusing on drunk, unbuckled and distracted drivers. The campaign kicks off Friday, Aug. 16 and runs through Sept. 3, according to a release from the sheriff's office. This means police efforts across the state will be ramp up through the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 2, and into the early morning hours of Tuesday, Sept. 3, according to a release from the sheriff's office.
“Our goal is to help ensure that our community’s residents and visitors make it home safely after the party ends,” Sheriff John Idleburg said, in the release. “We’ll be out in force to keep impaired drivers off the roads. If you’ll be celebrating, we urge you to plan ahead for a sober ride. Driving intoxicated is a certain recipe to end in tragedy or arrest.”
The sheriff's office reminds everyone that before the fun starts this Labor Day, remember to designate a sober driver and don’t let friends or family members drive drunk or high. The sheriff's office adds that even a small amount of alcohol can impair judgment and reaction times, making driving unsafe, according to the release.
