Residents, Cops, Firefighters and Military 'Taking It All Off' for St. Baldrick's

At least 50 brave people from Lake and McHenry counties will have their heads shaved Sunday to raise funds for cancer research. The annual St. Baldrick's event will be held at the Fox Lake Fire Dept. bingo hall in Ingleside.

Local firefighters and police officers will join community members in "Taking It All Off for Cancer Research," the annual St. Baldrick's head-shaving event for charity.

The event is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at the Fox Lake Volunteer Fire Department Bingo Hall at 141 Washington St., in Ingleside.

There are currently about 50 "shavees," including a few females. Shaving begins at 2:15 p.m. Spectators are welcome, as the event will include music, a 50/50 raffle, cash bar and food.

"We are excited to partner with local firefighters, police officers, the Fox Lake Volunteer Fire Dept Bingo Hall and others in the community to make this the most successful St. Baldrick’s event in Lake and McHenry Counties," said Greg Koeppen, event co-chair.

Last year's event raised nearly $23,000 for cancer research and saw 78 people shave their heads for the cause.

"Our goal this year is to surpass $20,000 which will all go towards fighting cancer," said Rob Danesi, event co-chair.

The inaugural St. Baldrick's event was held on St. Patrick's Day in New York in 2000. Since then, St. Baldrick's head-shavings have taken place in 18 countries and 46 U.S. states, raising more than $50 million and shaving more than 72,000 heads.
