Snow Blower Etiquette in Grayslake: What Times of Day Are Appropriate to Snow Blow?

Snow blowers are extremely helpful after a big storm, but they can also be very noisy. How late is too late and how early is too early to use the machines?

With snowfalls averaging 1 to 2 inches per hour Tuesday, Grayslake residents will likely be using their snow blowers over the next couple days.

Patch wants to know: How late is too late to snow blow your property and how early is too early?

We posed the β€œsnow blower etiquette” question to our Facebook fans Monday and here’s what residents had to say:

I think 6AM - 9PM are fair hours.

As long as your sidewalk is clean so my kids can get to the bus, I could care less.

Anything goes since I help out little old ladies out next door.

If you need to get to work....you do what you must. Especially when you don't get home late the night before from winter weather traffic. Lawn mowing is a whole other story however.

It does not bother me at all when others do it. It's one of those things where you just have to do what you can. I personally try to be done no later than 10pm (generally if we get a big snowfall I do it a couple times throughout the storm and will do it again at night before I go to bed to stay on top of it). To me, hearing a snowblower if a heck of a lot quieter than it is when the plows come through!

If you are helping me out please come anytime.

What do you think? Should people be respectful of their neighbors and turn off the snow blowers during certain times of the day? Let us know in the comments section.
